8 New Year’s Resolutions to Improve Content Marketing

A content marketing strategy for your business is essential, but do you have one? A recent survey shows that only 46 percent of marketers have a strategy in place. A strategy will help you create and deliver content which is relevant to your customers and helps build your authority.

If you’re ready to make 2014 a banner year for successful content marketing, here are some New Year’s resolutions to get you going.

  1. I resolve to make content marketing a critical part of my marketing objectives. Not only will content marketing build your brand and establish your expertise, but it will help drive sales.
  2. I resolve to make content that is audience-driven. Create content with your audience in mind, and you’ll begin to make connections and build relationships that resonate.
  3. I resolve to make my content more attractive and easy to navigate. Understand the basic rules of typography and pick fonts that will beautify your content. Use strong images that are as close to the content as possible.
  4. I resolve to improve my writing. One way to amp up your writing is by reading good content and writing more frequently. Come up with a list of 10 or 12 blog topics and flesh them out by establishing a calendar. Keep your blog posts short – 300 to 400 words. And don’t overlook the importance of killer headlines.
  5. I resolve to blog on a regular basis. If you don’t create new blog posts, there’s no reason for visitors to return. Once you have determined your blog goals, then you can decide on your blog topics and blog frequency. Some experts say you should post on a daily basis for a steady increase in traffic, but for most busy business owners, once or twice a week is manageable.
  6. I resolve to ensure my blog is search engine optimized. Use key words and key word phrases relevant to your industry to rank high with the search engines.
  7. I resolve to end each post with a call to action. What action do you want your audience to take after reading your post? Share a comment? Download a white paper or ebook? A recent survey showed that three simple call-to-action words – comment, link and share – received more engagement (in the form of comments, links and views) than those that did not.
  8. I resolve to share each blog post on social media. While you need great content to capture attention, you need even greater promotion to spread the word. Social media platforms can do that for you.
