900 N. Michigan Shops’ PR Move

900 N. Michigan Avenue Shops, located in what is frequently called the “Bloomingdale’s building,” has hired Ryan Beshel, an up and coming PR maven, as its PR Coordinator. This 29-year old maverick with his signature bowtie, horn-rimmed glasses and basketball player height, is poised to turn the mall into a hub of activity.

900 N. Michigan Avenue has always been the quieter mall on Michigan Avenue. It’s busy, yet not crowded. The stores here do well, but there’s not much of a bustle. A few months ago, 900 N. Michigan Ave shops owner JMB inked a deal with Mr. Beshel to be the “face” for the property.

Mr. Beshel had interned there while attending the Illinois Institute of Art, making friends, as he always does, along the way. His pedigree is strong, having interned with the iconic image and fashion consultant, Barbara Glass and popular PR person, Julie Darling of The Darling Company.

His last job before taking on his role at 900 N. Michigan Avenue was working at the Agency Galatea/Model Management as their Director of Runway, a position that was created for him at the agency.

Creator of a popular blog, The Bowtie Memoirs, a site he started while attending the Illinois Institute of Art, he amassed a following which has firmly entrenched him into the fashion community in Chicago. Raised in Gurnee, he was not into fashion when he was young because he was not exposed to it. He developed a love for it after being scouted to work at French Connection, where he attributes Michael, who was the district manager at French Connection and who hired him, in changing his life.

Mr. Beshel is responsible for all media relations, including press release development, pitching and securing of local and national press, along with fostering relationships with the tenants at 900 to produce partnerships, event concepts and editorial opportunities. He is also actively involved as a board member at GNMMA and on the Jr. Advisory Board at Habitat for Humanity.

There are a number of upcoming events scheduled at 900 N. Michigan Avenue. Here are few not to miss!

JulieWatsonStyle: “Shop the Shops” May 1-3, 2012. This is the Second Annual ‘Shop the Shops’ event with Julie Watson Style. Book a three hour ‘Shop the Shops’ styling appointment with Julie’s team to receive up to 20% off of purchases during your styling session.

Space519 and Decades (Windy City Pop-Up) May 11-13. The Decades road show event is coming back to Chicago this spring for its third appearance at space519. People in-the-know know that while in Los Angeles, Decades is the go-to spot for the very best in gently used designer couture. This spring, decades (part III) will return to Chicago – bigger and badder than ever. With more shoes (including their brand new exclusive collaboration with modern vintage), more handbags, dresses and more gowns (many of which have been to the world’s best events). The event is sure to be another smash with thousands of people and designer pieces passing through space519 during this fun and fashionable spring weekend. Friday preview by invitation only, Saturday 10am-7pm,and Sunday, 12-6pm.

Check out the 900 Shops for more information on more upcoming events. There a number of other exciting events coming up this spring and summer. With Mr. Beshel’s background, I am sure there will be fashion shows, too.
