Alvin Ailey Dancer Sarah Daley Returns to Chicago

When Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater announced its spring performance in Chicago, Sarah Daley was delighted. Having traveled all over the world performing, Ms. Daley loves visiting her hometown.

Growing up with three younger brothers, Ms Daley’s mom enrolled her energetic children in dance, beginning with ballet. While studying ballet at Faubourg School of Ballet in Illinois, Ms. Daley discovered modern dance and never looked back.

Supported by her parents throughout her career, Ms. Daley says they’re a huge inspiration: “My mom and dad know my tour schedule before I do, they are my biggest fans, along with Alvin Ailey Artistic Director Robert Battle. He is engaging, personable, and encourages you to bring out your best performance.”

Directing his second season, Mr. Battle “stands by Ailey’s mission to inspire audiences in a universal celebration of the human spirit using the African-American cultural experience and the American modern dance tradition.”

“I’m thrilled to further expand Ailey’s diverse repertory with new voices and talented contemporary choreographers that showcase the depth and breadth of the dancers’ artistry,” he says. “Audiences will experience new treasures, along with encores of last season’s notable works and beloved pieces from Ailey’s rich history, and to be dancing these pieces on the Auditorium Theatre stage for two weeks is a privilege and delight for the entire Ailey family.”
