Barrington Concours d’Elegance Car Show

Looking for something exclusive and unique to do this weekend…

The Barrington Concours d’Elegance hosts its 7th annual charity event July 12-14 at the Makray Memorial Golf Club in Barrington, featuring over 100 exquisite vintage vehicles from around the world.

The three-day event hopes to raise $1 million, with proceeds donated to the Barrington Area Conservation Trust (BACT). Awards will be given in 12 separate categories for vehicles, dated 1973 or earlier, that were nominated for the Concours competition. The cars will be judged by cleanliness, fit and furnish, level of restoration, paint choices for components, interior condition and the presenter’s attempt to present the vehicle’s ‘period correctness.’

Co-Chair and Barrington Consours d’Elegance COO Patty Dowd Schmitz has directed BACT for the past seven years. This year, Ms. Schmitz will co-chair the fete with Barrington Consours d’Elegance CEO David Cooper. “We believe we’ve assembled one of the finest groups of important automobiles and motorcycles in the Midwest this year,” says Mr. Cooper. “From Duesenbergs to Delahaye and Vincent motor bikes, vehicles selected for the show field represent key milestones in design and engineering. The breadth will range from the brass period and great classics to post war works of art.”

“Each of these vehicles is held in high esteem for their contributions to automotive history,” shares Mr. Cooper. “We’re thrilled to tell the story of vehicles that span several generations. It’s as important to recognize the impact of iconic cars like the Ford Mustang as it is to celebrate the greats like Auburns and Packards.”

On Friday, July 12, a couple of invite-only events include the Legacy Club & VIP “Car-B-Que,” along with sponsor Northern Trust Celebration of Speed at the Autobahn Country Club, featuring the Porsche Sport Driving School where guests get to race on the track.

On Saturday, July 13, a 1920s Great Gatsby garden party and dinner will be hosted by Mike & Ivy Guarise along with Dave & Susan Nelsen, members of the exclusive “Legacy Club,” at the Barrington Hills Country Club. Festivities begin with a cocktail reception 5:30-7:30pm following with dinner, dancing and gambling and a live auction. The fete will benefit Legends and Legacies Foundation, who has chosen BACT as  their recipient this year.

On Sunday, July 14, tickets to view the cars are available to the general public for $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Kids 12 and under are free.

Ms. Schmitz shares, “I have been extremely gratified to work on this event for the past seven years. It is such a unique event in this area. These cars are like ‘rolling art’ – many are worth millions of dollars and come from private collections around the country. They are only seen at venues like this. I love the history and beauty of the cars, and the visually stunning presentation that over 140 such vehicles makes at our golf course venue. But in the end, it is most gratifying to be able to work on this charity event to be able to provide funds to worthy organizations such as the Barrington Area Conservation Trust. It’s a win-win for everyone!”
The Concours is a year-long celebration of automotive excellence featuring more than 10 events. These special cars will be displayed at the Concours’ capstone event July 12-14 along with 100 of the world’s finest and rarest vehicles, including a collection of Avions Voisins, Duesenbergs, Corvettes, Porsches, Indy cars and Vincent motorcycles. General admission tickets are available for purchase here.
