Targeting problem areas is easy thanks to three new fitness classes.
Spring means biking on Lake Shore Drive, bumping over to Oak Street Beach for volleyball and baseball in Grant Park. But as soon as summer arrives, it’s time to take off the sweats and show off your toned body. Worried? Don’t be. It’s time to push yourself into a fitness routine. Here are three new classes to help target each bathing suit-bared body part.
Equinox Fitness Club

Equinox is known for body-pumping classes. New on the schedule to tighten and tone your midline to leg lines is Core Values. Master Instructor Jen Hogg promises a focused class combining total body moves at the Gold Coast location. Core Values is a 45-minute circuit training class. Each move has an intention or value and is performed for up to two minutes, allowing participants to work at their current ability and stretch their performance as they strengthen their bodies. The six core values of courage, challenge, concentration, consistency, commitment and community are drawn together with six habits of mindset, movement, hydration, nutrition, regeneration and recreation, which are reinforced by the instructor and written on the walls in the studio. This mind-changing class is great to jump start your winter hibernation. Although Equinox offers gym memberships, guests are invited to join Ms. Hogg with a copy of TCW’s April issue in hand this month for a free class any Wednesday from 11:30AM-12:15PM.
MaZi Dance Studio

‘Ballerina Buns’ are promised by Ziba Sarabia-Lennox and Marisol Sarabia, 20-year veteran professional dance sisters and certified fitness instructors. The newest MaZi location in the South Loop continues with great dance-inspired workouts that help make your body leaner and mind happier. “Music rules at MaZi,” says Ms. Sarabia-Lennox. “It’s more than a fitness class; it’s about learning the tools to develop your body, mind and overall health. The Bar Method

Although this ‘bar’ is close to Rush Street, you won’t find Tom Collins or Arnold Palmer in the newest Bar Method. Opening a fifth studio in Chicago, making it the largest franchise in the Midwest, owners Elisabeth Settimi and Catherine Wendel have found the secret to making your body crave a bikini this summer. The structured classes are reservation-only with waitlisted participants hoping to get into a bar space. Moves consist of standing work, light weights and bar movements (both standing and on the floor), followed by mat work to combine Pilates, strength training and ballet into an hour-long session of challenging, yet simple movements. One class is free to new members who mention this article in April.
Spoiler alert: If you’ve let your body really get out of shape, obviously there are no quick fixes. But it’s never too late to begin a fitness program, so get motivated now!
