American Cheese Month

Yes, who would know, but October is the American Cheese month! Although, I don't mean the orange squares of cheese wrapped tightly in their little saran envelopes. This is a real celebration of the fabulous new wave of American hand-crafted artisan products championed at places like Pastoral. This month is all about raising awareness of the quality and diversity of American cheeses.

We had the pleasure of joining a small group on a bus tour of several of these cheese makers outside of Madison, Wisconsin. What follows is a photo essay of the visit to the following cheese facilities, from Edelweiss in Monticello, Roelli in Shullsburg, Hook's in Mineral Point, Uplands in Dodgeville and finally to Bleu Mont Dairy in Blue Mounds. Enjoy the trip and go taste these cheeses. A great opportunity will be this Sunday, October 16th at Kendall College, where a guided cheese and beverage tasting will be held to benefit the American Cheese Society Education and Scholarship Fund, hosted by Pastoral, along with others. Join the party!
