Fashion Find of the Week: Alexis Bittar Link Bracelet
During my all-too-frequent virtual trips to online boutiques and retailers, I often find pieces so fabulous, they absolutely demand to be shared. So, in addition to passing them along to my beloved clients, I wanted to let you in on the stylish fun, too...
This week I bring you a glamourous bauble for your wrist, handcraftedby one of my all-time favorite jewelry designers: Alexis Bittar. (BTW...didja know Alexis is a man?)
Bittar is one of those NYC club kids of the '80s who used the excess and exhibitionism surrounding him as fuel for his creative fire...and to beautiful, utterly unique effect. He is known for his hand-carved Lucite pieces, which are often organic in form and always appear lit from within. But he also has a way with semi-precious stones and metals that makes my heart go all a-flutter.
In his"Ivory Coast" link bracelet, you get a little sampling of the designer's talents. It features two Lucite links contrasted against two raffia-covered links, all held together with clusters of Swarovski crystals set in 18k gold-plated metal. I can just picture it worn on bronzed skin with a wispy white linen dress and barely-there leather sandals. Inspired by the Ivory Coast, but just as appropriate for a warm spring evening(hey,a girl can dream!) on the Gold Coast, oui?
PS:Alexis Bittar is celebrating the opening of his new boutique in Wicker Park (1710 N Damen) tonight -and you better believe I'll be there with (Lucite) bells on! You?
PPS: Through today,Bittar is donating 100% of all purchases on AlexisBittar.com to Catholic Relief Services to assist the earthquake and tsunami recovery in Japan.
"Ivory Coast" bracelet, $375, AlexisBittar.com.
