Has the Clutter in Your Living/Work Space Taken Over Your Life? Tips from B Organized
We all have been there, where all our closets and drawers are overfilled with too many items, and we still keep stuffing them until the doors almost fall off the hinges! I have been hit in the nose by a box I was saving just in case I needed it, sliced by a scissors that was in my junk drawer and hit by a 12lb bowling ball that almost broke my toe as it rolled over my foot.
So why does this happen? Why do we hold onto our stuff and overfill our closets and drawers with things that we may or may-not need? Why do we keep packing our storage areas with these items? Is it because we can't make a decision whether to keep them or not? Or is it just a fear of "letting go" and dealing with the issues later?
Let's face it, we all could use some help in organizing and de-cluttering our work and living space to rid us of unwanted items and help us find the things we need, most. It's all about organization and learning to let go of the items we don't need anymore!
Meet Laura Olivares, Founder of B Organized, a professional organization company with offices in Chicago and New York. Laura just celebrated her 13th year in business on April 1st. She realized there was a tremendous need for helping people organize their home and work spaces while still in her previous career as an in-home hair designer. The realization came after visiting one of her clients and seeing the anxiety his clutter was causing him.
Trying to help him deal with this anxiety, Laura began offering her organizational skills to help him feel better about his home space. After seeing how his life substantially improved, Laura decided that being an "organizer" was her calling.
B Organized is different then other organizers in the fact that they not only organize a household or office, they have developed an inventory system that allows clients to manage their own belongings when in storage. Laura's staff also goes through on-going weekly education and training. All team members take the individuals personal habits and needs into consideration when developing personalized systems.
Laura says that people only use 20% of what they own. Much of what they have is buried back in a closet where they can't see or find it. There is no organization system in place. She says, "Deal with the clutter." Here are her tips for clearing out the clutter in your living or work space:
D- Divide items into categories
E- Eliminate items you don't need. If you don't love it, lose it!
A- Assign a new space (home) for the items in a new container. Buy containers from the Home Container Store.
L- Label the containers you have just placed your items in. It takes at least 30-days to learn a new habit.
B Organized has also helped newly wed couples from getting divorced! When a spouse moves into the others "personal space" it can be traumatic for both parties. She has aided many couples in merging their personal items by establishing a "system for living together" that works well for both of them. Having a third party to deal with this process is priceless!
After her brother died in an unfortunate incident, Laura watched the family deal with the guilt of not being available to do more in regards to helping her brother's girlfriend deal with his belongings. Laura, who was grieving herself, couldn't help with the process, either. This event caused her to create a company, "Nothing Forgotten" to support family members/friends in choosing the best options for their loved ones personal effects.
She offers this valuable tip when using a professional organizer. Laura says, "Don't clean up your living space before your home needs an assessment, the organizer needs to see it as you function in it to evaluate how it is normally used."
Laura and her talented group of Professional Organizers at B Organized are a terrific resource for anyone that needs help organizing their home or work space; which is most of us! Check out the web-site at www.borganizedinc.com or call (877)645-7833.
