January is getting hot, in the mayor's race, that is.

The above is a link to a segment on today's Eight Forty-Eight show on WBEZ, in which I participated, discussing the New Year's first week of mayoral happenings.
However, what's really important here is--when all is said and done--isthe question of whether we can get past the question of candidate 'baggage" and the media coverage ins and outs, and get to the discussion of the issues we all so desperately need to consider, if we're going to make the right choice come election day.
AsI pointed-out in another context today, would that the candidates would adopt an approach in which they decide to address the overlapping, overwhelmingproblems so many Chicago families face by proposing to work directly with the women-headed families that bear the brunt of the city's violence, poor school outcomes, dearth of jobs and other problems.
On this topic of the utility of begining with the city's women, check-out the data on the website of the Eleanor Foundation, setting the stage for this discussion I hope we and the candidates can have in the next seven weeks.
