BloOuts Grand Opening in Highland Park

Chicago’s newest blow-dry bar, BloOuts (1872 Sheridan Road Highland Park), will hold its grand opening on Sunday, February 17.

Clients at BloOuts can celebrate the grand opening week with complimentary blow-outs for the first 50 customers and discounted services for the rest of the week.

BloOuts owner Vivian Arpino heard about the concept of a blow-dry bar in 2011 while working as a hairstylist for The Oprah Winfrey Show. After 22 years blow-drying celebrities’ hair, as well as working at her previous job as at Charles Ifergan, Ms. Arpino fell in love with the idea of a salon where clients could pay a flat rate for shampoo, a glass of wine and a blow-out.

Ms. Arpino’s experience as a hair stylist distinguishes BloOuts from other blow dry bars in the area. According to Ms. Arpino, most people that open blow-dry bars don’t have that experience, “They’re just business people doing it for the financial investment. I’m a hair stylist. I know hair.”

And while other blow-dry bars name their menu items after popular mixed drinks, playing off the ‘bar’ pun, Ms. Arpino takes advantage of her experience blow-drying celebrities’ hair by naming styles after a celebrity she’s worked with, namely ‘The Jennifer Aniston’ or ‘The Gwyneth Paltrow.’ She even named styles after celebrities with hairstyles she likes: “I have curly hair and I always want to look like Demi Moore. So I named the straight hair style ‘The Demi Moore,’ because that’s what I love.” Clients choose from over 20 different styles from an iPad menu at the front of the salon and then have their hair blown out by a stylist. Every blow-out costs $35, regardless of the style.

Ms. Arpino plans on accommodating any and all customers, “We’re more than happy to work the Bat Mitzvahs, proms, bachelorette parties, bridal showers. We can accommodate teenagers to 70-year-olds.” And while BloOuts has five stylists, Ms. Arpino doesn’t want to disappear behind a desk for the future of her business. “I’ve got the experience with the hair, and I’m going to be there every single day behind a chair, styling, making sure everything is being operated smoothly because I know how these things should be done,” she says.
