These style tips will get you ready to work it this season
You've arrived. You've reached the top rung of the career ladder. And you've earned it. Here’s where dress options become a little tricky. For men, it’s easy – they just mix it up with shirts, suits and ties. Women, on the other hand, have myriad options. This is both a blessing and a curse. Projecting a stylish, professional image isn't always easy. And when you're in such a visible position, there's no room for mistakes in the office or in your wardrobe.
What Your Apparel Says About You
How you present yourself mirrors the work you deliver. It's the same for men and women: In order to succeed, you must dress professionally. “Whether you’re creative or logical, assertive or passive, a born leader or a great follower — all of these assumptions and more are being communicated through your wardrobe, whether you're conscious of them or not,” says personal stylist and TCW fashion blogger Erin Carpenter. “And of course, a wardrobe with personality is simply much more fun.”
John Bourgeois, director of Macy's by Appointment personal shopping service at Macy's on State Street, believes image, and how people perceive that image, is a crucial part of a your career. “[You want your] clients and coworkers to respect and believe in you,” Mr. Bourgeois says. “By showing personality with your professional wardrobe, you show both power and knowledge mixed with creativity and sincerity.” Clothes reflect your own personal brand, which you should feel comfortable representing. “When you feel good about how you look, it’s just one more element of being a confident business executive,” adds Deborah DeHaas, midwest regional managing partner of Deloitte, LLP. And confidence is key.
