Carless Islands in the 21st Century?

Yes – it’s true, there are carless islands that exist today.

Philanthropist and documentary producer Melissa Sage Fadim, along with writer and director Terry Hesser, recently finished their fifth documentary The Incomparable Croatia in the series Islands Lost in Time highlighting Dubrovnik, Croatia, scheduled to air on WTTW11 on Friday, September 6 at 7:30PM.

The 30-minute documentaries highlight remote islands that forbid motorized vehicles of any kind. Ms. Fadim discusses how she became inspired to produce: “After spending many summers on Mackinac Island in Michigan and seeing the main focus of the island being primarily animal driven and carless, I decided to pair up with three-time Emmy award winning filmmaker Terry Hesser.” These two talented ladies recently finished filming their sixth documentary in the series on the island of Porquerolles, France.
