Have you got the fever (to dance)? Christopher Walken might say the only prescription is more cowbell, but we say it’s the Chicago Flamenco Festival 2014. Kicking off on Valentine’s Day at the Instituto Cervantes of Chicago (31 West Ohio Street), TCW has put together an unofficial guide to one of the city’s most anticipated events – fully equipped with performances, workshops and film series that you surely can’t miss.

PERFORMANCES

Friday, February 14
Instituto Cervantes of Chicago, 31 West Ohio Street
Join the opening reception with Spanish hors d’oeuvres and wine. Then, kick off the beginning of the festival from with a special performance by internationally renowned flamenco artists from Vanesa Aibar Company and special guest The Ensemble Español Dance Theater. Wednesday, February 19
Gary and Laura Maurer Concert Hall, 4544 North Lincoln Avenue
Old Town School of Folk Music and the Instituto Cervantes present a performance by Chicago Flamenco. Help welcome them with a night full of passionate music and dance. Info and tickets: www.oldtownschool.org.

Tuesday, March 4
Symphony Center, 220 South Michigan Avenue
Help welcome the captivating flamenco singer Estrella Morente as you transport yourself to a sultry night in Spain. Singing everything from sensual tangos to breathtaking tarantas, it will be a night to remember. Info and tickets: www.cso.org.

Friday, March 14
The Myron R. Szold Music & Dance Hall at 4545 North Lincoln Avenue
Join El Payo y La Tiranta “Noche Flamenca” as they present a night of contemporary flamenco music and dance including styles such as Rumbas, Sevillanas and Bulerias. Hailing from diverse ethnic backgrounds including Spain, Ecuador, Puetro Rico, Mexico and the USA, El Payo y La Tiranata offers a night of flamenco unlike any other.
