Dynamic, energetic and spirited are three perfect words to describe jewelry designer Coomi Bhasin. The multi-talented artist has designed everything from buildings to landscapes to textiles. Now celebrating ten years as a jewelery designer, Ms. Bhasin has accomplished just that and more, including recently becoming a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
After a decade of working with gold, Ms. Bhasin launched a silver line – 47 AG – featuring a texture that is rare and time-consuming. On November 28 and 29, Neiman Marcus on Michigan Avenue hosted a trunk show of Coomi’s gold and silver jewelry. The gold line ranges from $2,000 to over $20,000, while the silver line falls within $400 to $10,000.
How special is the collection? The 20k gold collection is over the top, including one-of-a-kind designs. So unique, the collection features slices of diamonds, rose cut diamonds and black diamonds. One-of-a-kind pieces include glass that is over 2,000 years old (from being under ground, a chemical reaction occurs on the glass forming a patina). Some collectors of Coomi Jewelry purchase the distinguished pieces to frame, not wear – pieces of art indeed.
Ms. Bhasin describes the collection: “The pieces have movement, everything about the pieces has a special meaning. My signature is a paisley pattern which symbolizes life and eternity. The paisley is designed on every piece. In addition, every piece has a diamond for energy. The diamond touches the skin which gives you great energy. Two diamonds equal immortal love (for example pair of swans who mate for life). Whereas one diamond equals souls are ONE.”
A natural beauty, Ms. Bhasin’s beauty regimen is pretty simple: soap and water. Ms. Bhasin shares, “I can’t take two hours to get ready every day. I prefer to use two hours somewhere else instead of trying to make myself beautiful. I would rather make beautiful jewelry.”
Coomi Jewelry has been featured in Town & Country, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, W Magazine, and O – The Oprah Magazine, among others. Hollywood’s A-listers adorning Coomi Jewerly include Amy Adams, Cameron Diaz, Emily Blunt, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jessica Biel, Mary J. Blige, Penelope Cruz, Sandra Bullock and Vivica A. Fox, to name a few.
What is next on the horizon? Ms. Bhasin has plans to develop and design a boutique hotel on an island and design everything from A to Z. Yes, she loves what she does.
