CorePower Ryder Yoga Classes Debut
This cardio-intense yoga will get your heart racing
The scene: An 85-degree room with sweating yogis cycling stationary 222.7-pound indoor bikes while “Funk Soul Brother” plays. Welcome to CorePower Yoga – the Colorado-born sensation known for inventive class offerings – which opened a studio in Lincoln Square (2301 West Lawrence Avenue), and is the first in Chicago to offer CorePower Ryder classes. Elizabeth Hinker, manager of the facility hopes this spin class will help satisfy yogi cardio cravings. “Some people still think they need a gym membership in addition to yoga to get the cardio aspect,” she says.
Not anymore. CorePower Ryder features the RealRyder bikes, which tilt, turn and lean, simulating an outdoor bike and requiring extra core strength. The body is constantly reacting to the side-to-side motion of the bike, a wrestling match on top and a push against resistance for lower extremities.
This 45-minute class focuses on cycling, without time to perform Warrior II or Side Crane. Instead, the yoga component is integrated through specialized language and teacher instruction that reflects the spiritual, mental and physical aspects of yoga.
“Our students leave feeling successful, not defeated, because we set them up that way,” says instructor Michele Haaland. Check out class listings at www.corepoweryoga.com.
