Fashion Influence on Home Décor

At a recent seminar at the Merchandise Mart, the featured topic noted that the world of fashion and décor are coming together. According to professionals in both fields, as soon as fashion collections hit the runway and reporters, photographers and bloggers share these events with their readers and viewers. These images are being seen by designers of fashion and home furnishings alike so trends in both are influencing each other.

For example, Ikat print skirts can be translated to Ikat print fabric on a bench. Tartan print fabric can be used to fashion a vest or the same Tartan print can be used as a pattern for wallpaper. Zebra print purses as well as a zebra print rug.

Professionals agree that fashion and home décor always had an influence on each other, however, in today’s social media age the time frame collides. Just like clothing reflects an individuals personal style, your home is a reflection of yourself. Decorating your home to suit your way of living, tastes and lifestyle is becoming more important than ever.

More people are taking note of the declared ‘color of the year.’ 2012 was Tango Tangerine, 2013 Emerald Green. So far one color company has declared 2014 to be a shade of blue. While most agree that trends are not to be taken too seriously, we are all influenced by what we see. When we begin to see a sea of one color over another on clothing racks in the department store, it naturally influences what we begin to seek out and select for not only our wardrobe but also home decorating choices.
