Candace Jordan
Former model, actress and fashion editor, now writer for her society, fashion, and nightlife blog on ChicagoNow.com, "Candid Candace"
Your style in three words Uncomplicated, modern, dramatic.
No-fail uniform Vintage Zoran jacket, tank, Capri pants, leopard heels and statement jewelry.
What’s one trend you wish would go away? Mixing extreme patterns.
I feel confident in My red Lanvin cocktail dress that I wore to the Modern Wing opening.
Shopping favorites Jolie Femme in Hubbard Woods and French Twist in Three Oaks, Michigan. Neiman’s – I adore Cynthia Holbrook, Tina Koegel and Wendy Krimins as well as darling Henry in the shoe dept. They’re like family and it’s easy, one-stop shopping. And of course, Bergdorf’s in NY and Bal Harbour in Miami. For vintage, Randolph Street Vintage Market – they have incredible dealers from all across the country and I love Nena Ivon, who is the creative director there now.
Brand recognition Chado Ralph Rucci’s Spring/Summer 2010 was the most incredible collection I’ve ever seen. I saw it on Fashion TV in Paris and was swooning. Sadly, I can’t afford most of it but I certainly admire his designs. I also like Michael Kors, Jil Sander and Zoran (when he first started).
Every woman should own The obvious answer is a little black dress, but I think having an awesome handbag matters more.
Who influenced my style I’ve been inspired by European fashion magazines. They show extreme combinations of the latest collections that you can adapt to your own style. Also, traveling the world and making mental notes of what I like and don’t like on other women.
For honest advice The mirror.
Style icon Besides the elegance of Audrey Hepburn, I love the eccentricity and fearlessness of Daphne Guinness’ style. I also love Prince Albert’s fiancé, Charlene Wittstock’s. She has an uncanny resemblance to his mother and also has Grace Kelly’s iconic, impeccable style adapted for a younger generation.
Most prized item I do love my latest designs from Chicago designer Elda de la Rosa.
Favorite thing I’ve worn My wedding dress.
Splurge v. Save I splurge on handbags and good jewelry (costume as well as real). I conserve money on basics.
Chicago scene Conservative chic.
Fashionable Chicagoans Greg Hyder – his wardrobe perfectly matches his personality and he has created his own individual look. I was shopping for his birthday present the other day and I merely asked the salesperson if he had a brightly colored pocket square (I had already purchased some colorful cufflinks) and he asked me, ‘Is it Greg Hyder’s birthday?’ Now that is the mark of someone who makes a fashion statement!
Getting-ready routine Strictly spontaneous. Usually, I visually plan the outfit in the shower as I’m dressing for the event. I really try to mix things up every time I go out. I hate wearing the same things over and over.
Biggest fashion faux pas Looking back, it would have to be skin tight leggings. Unless you’re a 6’ supermodel with perfect legs, they don’t look good.
Closing thoughts I’m not a label snob. I will look anywhere and everywhere for fashionable items for my wardrobe. I think it’s more important to create your own personal style rather than relying on the latest trends and what various designers dictate for the season. I love being my own fashion sleuth
