Drive down Wabash. Once you pass 16th street, you might think you’ve gone too far. Then, alas, Acadia sits unassuming on the east side of the street (1639 South Wabash.) Other restaurants have attempted to settle into this South Loop area, but few have been as ambitious.
Once you walk in the door, your jaw will drop at the beauty of the vaulted ceilings, inviting earth tones and exceptional elegance. This isn’t the kind of place you stop in for a quick, small plate – although, Acadia claims to be converting the front room into a more casual burger and cocktail bar. While there are some offerings à la carte, the tasting menus are more of the norm.
With each plate, McCaskey’s cuisine takes liberties with American fare. I’m including shots of several of the dishes we tried, although the menu changes quite frequently based on seasonal availability. Don’t worry – you’ll be in for a surprise either way. Sommelier and wine director, Jason Prah, also dazzles with his global selections and an interesting craft cocktail menu. Service is warm and attentive.
The South Loop has never looked or tasted so good.
