Congratulations to Mary Ann Rose, president/CEO of Tamar Productions, Inc., who was recently elected chairman of The Greater North Michigan Avenue Association. Ms. Rose is a special events industry leader and owner of Mary, Mary gift boutique. She’s also involved with numerous charities.
Ms. Rose is the third woman to serve as chairman in the association’s 100-year history. “It’s a great honor to be selected by my peers to chair this outstanding business organization,” she says, “ and I’m very excited about working with such a distinguished group of professionals who really care about the city of Chicago. Each of them has a passion for this city that is truly unheard of in today’s time and age. Having been a businesswoman over the past 30 years, and having founded two successful businesses of my own, however, I’d hope that I was selected on my ability, my reputation, as well as my contributions to GNMAA over the years and not just as a woman. I also hope that I can contribute in my own way to the continued success of the organization.”
As president/CEO of Tamar Productions, Inc., Ms. Rose is no stranger to strategic planning. “Tamar Productions Inc. is an Illinois licensed, full-service special event and destination management company specializing in meetings and events of all sizes,” she says. “From intimate cocktail receptions for 25 to large-scale conventions for over 20,000 attendees, our professional and personal approach, along with a healthy respect for our client¹s budget is a Tamar Hallmark.”
Nine years ago, due to requests for corporate gifts as part of Tamar Productions corporate events, Ms. Rose decided to open Mary Mary Gifts on the first floor of the building that houses Tamar’s offices. “Since the building is 135-years old and has a great deal of charm, and the space was available, this was the perfect place for opening the boutique,” explains Ms Rose. “At the same time, it fulfilled one of my dreams to have my own gift shop. The best part is I get to travel all over the world with my husband, shopping for interesting and creative gifts and meeting some really great people who have become my friends as well as customers.”
When asked about her plans for the Association, Ms. Rose said, “On an immediate note, I’m working to familiarize myself with all of the different divisions of GNMAA. I have always been involved with the Planning and Advocacy Division, because they deal directly with sign and urban design, project review, beautification of the mile, security and traffic.”
Ms. Rose is also involved with the Marketing Division and sustaining The Magnificent Mile brand. “We also have the Meetings and Events and Membership Divisions as well as The Magnificent Mile Charitable Foundation, which supports local charities,” she shares. “So as you can see, there’s a great deal of work ahead of me. However, my immediate, as well as long-term goal, is to get the word out internationally that we are one of the top shopping avenues of the world. Everyone talks about Rodeo Drive, Fifth Avenue, Bond Street, the Champs-Elysees and even the Ginza, but we have the most beautiful and magnificent mile for shopping anywhere and we need to shout it from the roof tops. When international tourists think of shopping, Chicago should be the first thing that comes to their minds. Not only do we have all the great brands within a short walking distance, The Magnificent Mile is a beautiful location that boasts outstanding architecture, beautiful plantings and green space and, above all, the friendliest in Midwestern hospitality.”
