Speaking of helping others…
Jonny Imerman is an inspiration to each and every person he meets. Displaying a huge smile and ready to lend a helping hand, Mr. Imerman’s organization, Imerman Angels, has touched lives around the world. A two-time cancer survivor, Mr. Imerman founded Imerman Angels in 2005 and began working at it full-time in 2006. Now heading into its eighth year, the organization is hosting its first annual gala to be held on Saturday, September 28 at the Ritz-Carlton Chicago.
Completing his MBA while fighting cancer, Mr. Imerman made a career change from the field of commercial real estate to working on his non-profit full-time, which also entailed a move from Michigan to Chicago. Imerman Angels grew and is still growing strong, having just hired a seventh employee and moving to a larger office; they connect people around the world. With a lot of help from friends, Imerman Angels receives the most funds from friends who run the Chicago Marathon and raise money. Then there are the big connections with cancer centers and LiveStrong, which has a link to Imerman Angels on its website.
How does Mr. Imerman feel about LiveStrong today? “LiveStrong is a movement; you have to separate Lance Armstrong from the organization,” he says. “LiveStrong, based in Austin, Texas, employs over 100 people. Their impact is felt around the world, helping thousands of people every year. Donations are up and the organization will continue forward. As long as cancer is around, so will LiveStrong be around. LiveStrong CEO Doug Ulman, a three-time cancer survivor, will most likely become the new face of the company. Imerman Angles has a strong connection with LiveStrong, being listed under the topics Get Help, One-on-One Support, and Partners.”
How does Mr. Imerman stay healthy? He’s been a vegan for the past two years and stays away from sugar, salt, oil and gluten. Mr. Imerman drinks water all day long. His favorite options for “eating out” include Protein Bar, Freshii, Karyn’s Cooked, and Whole Foods.
Coming in March…Eric Himel and Jonny Imerman will conduct their third makeover for a cancer patient and/or survivor, treating the client to a full-day of pampering from head to toe. Stay tuned.
