Kohl Children’s Museum, along with Co-Chairs John and Fran Edwardson, welcomed over 500 guests to the museum’s annual gala on Saturday, October 12. Raising over $600,000 for the museum’s operations, arts and science programming, services for children with special needs, and families in low-income neighborhoods, the event was held on the museum’s 9-acre campus. Guests were treated to a delightful dinner catered by J&L Catering, fanciful décor by Event Creative and a live auction featuring travel, theatre and museum experiences in New York and Chicago.
Honoree of the evening, Weiz Kauffman, president/CEO of Ravinia Festival in Highland Park, has given his time and talent to provide young children with music education and appreciation. “Weiz has been a longtime supporter of Kohl Children’s Museum and a dear personal friend,” says Museum President & CEO Sheridan Turner. “His passion for bringing the gift of music to young children has been so evident throughout the years, resulting in this wonderful partnership between Ravinia and the Museum. His expertise and talent is helping to make our area a true cultural destination.”
The evening was filled with entertainment beginning with Mr. Kauffman performing “Take Five” with five young musicians from the Ravinia Scholars program, the Chicago Children’s Choir, Grammy Award-winning opera singer Sylvia McNair, ending with the Bill Pollack Orchestra who gave guests a reason to dance the night away.
