Man of the Month: Jerry Taft
It's always sunny with a chance of humor for Meterologist Jerry Taft
He’s older than his mother-in-law; it’s his 35th year on TV in Chicago; loves golf, carries a two handicap and has hit nine holes in one! At age 65 shot a 65, loves doing the weather and gets paid even when he’s wrong. Oh, and he was married to the stylist of the above photograph and dated the writer of this interview. Meteorologist Jerry Taft, is an iconic figure at ABC7 Chicago, WLS-TV, whose forecasts often make people laugh out loud, “even if it’s at my expense,” Jerry says, “so I don’t mind the weight jokes,” adding “I’m not really that overweight.” Prior to beginning his broadcast career, for 15 years, Jerry served in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot and forecaster. He taught aviation and flight planning and was an instructor pilot in the T-38 aircraft. Chicago weather is fairly unpredictable, but as Jerry explains, “it’s still not an exact science, but computers have vastly improved the forecasts. During the year there are approximately 50 days when weather really has an adverse affect on people. On those days I try to be level-headed, concise and not panic people. On the other 315 days, I try to kick back and have as much fun as I can.”

Hi, Sherren --
How are you?
Tell Jerry I said hello. He's a nice guy who "weathered" many shows I produced at WMAQ-TV. Ask him does he remember doing his first Chicago weathercast with me as producer.
