These bold hues are reminiscent of Andy Warhol.

Like a real-life ‘Marilyn Diptych’ – Andy Warhol’s 1962 tribute to Marilyn Monroe – this season’s makeup is all about the bright lips, rosy cheeks and electrifying shimmery lids. “This trend feels like it was pulled directly from an art class,” observes Zee Gustafson, professional makeup artist and owner of Zee Artistry.

And according to Jake Broullard, Chicago-based lead makeup stylist at NARS, now is the perfect time to shake things up in your makeup bag. “Spring is all about a renewed energy,” he says. “Fresh skin with pops of color.” Indeed, orange lipstick was spotted on runways in all its citrusy glory at Prabal Gurung, Nanette Lepore and Donna Karan, while Badgley Mischka and Marc by Marc Jacobs focused on true blue lids. Mr. Broullard adds that the brilliant hues suit every skin tone, and “it’s really about blending to get the perfect intensity.”

Of course, going bright and bold isn’t for everyone – for a more wearable take on the trend, Ms. Gustafson suggests toning down the color intensity. For example, simply use bright eyeshadow as eyeliner to incorporate color into your daytime look, and swap the orange lipstick for a softer coral gloss.
