From mint green to periwinkle, soft pastel hues provide a refreshing antidote to the run-of-the-mill smoky eye. Yet, for fear of appearing washed out or dated, many women might be hesitant to reach for that pastel palette. But the pros say the look is tough, edgy and very now.
“This season’s pastels have a punk rock vibe,” says Laura Weathersby, makeup artist at Laursbymakeup101.com. “The fact that they’re outlined in black and paired with heavy lashes gives you an ‘80s feel that’s slightly sugared.” And unlike the more relaxed, dewy and slightly flushed skin that we see every summer, it’s all about a more finished, satin look.
“There’s no wrong way to wear pastels,” concludes Ms. Weathersby. “But make sure to choose textures based on age, skin type and skin tone.” She adds that it’s no surprise that pastels are a definite ‘do’ this season: “Last year, neon was so amped up. So instead of turning up the volume with neon, you can turn down the volume to create something sweeter.”
