The capstone of my personal branding journey was a photoshoot that took me, Kali and make-upartist Laura Franco to Brian McConkey’s photo studio. For some reason I didn’t hear that taking photos, or headshots, was also a part of my personal branding experience. It took a little twisting of my arm to make it happen because in my mind, I already had a professional photo of myself. Kali said that my photo (the first image in the gallery below) didn’t quite capture my essence or my brand so I needed to take new ones.
I’ve know that many executives are “branding “themselves even within their own corporations. I’ve even had some clients who’ve made videos introducing themselves and their mission for their company or for job interviews. I just never though about having a personal photoshoot to capture my brand.
For a few hours I was like a fashion model and it was THE most fun!
It was just as you’d imagine: energizing music, fans, lights and props and then, bonus: internationally acclaimed photographer Brian McConkey. I had someone there to help me with the clothing that my stylist Maegan suggested would be flatteringin photographs. Ms. Franco was great. She “beat my face” as they say, complete with air brush foundation. I looked beautiful. She was there throughout the shoot to make sure everything stayed fresh and perfect.
After all of that fun, the photos were ready to review immediately!
Now I have modern, brand aligned photos for my bio, website, Facebook and LinkedIn pages. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and has opened up a few conversations with associates that I haven’t been in touch with for a while.
Looking at these photos I am beginning to see what Kali saw: the potential in my outward appearance and that I could not even begin to imagine when we began this journey. The photos have helped me to see myself differently. In the past, I just focused on how I felt on the inside, but there is an interesting power that comes from the confidence of knowing that I actually look the way I feel.
I’m so grateful for the updates, which motivates me to continue to take good care of myself. I’ve definitely had a seismic shift in self-esteem from experiencing doors opened by the new images. Now, I’m inspired to reach even higher.
Who knew a photoshoot could matter.
