Red Carpet Beauty Tips Courtesy of Walgreens

Walgreens stores across the nation hosted the first ‘Night at the W’ in-store event Thursday, January 10, to promote some of the newest products from CoverGirl, Olay, Crest and more. Customers tried various beauty items and received tips from Walgreens’ beauty advisors on how to create red-carpet-ready looks.

Marcie Hoklas, category manager for cosmetics, Walgreens, introduced many of these items at the flagship store on the corner of State and Randolph. Her favorite product is the new CoverGirl Clump Crusher LashBlast mascara. “I’m a mascara lover, and whether you want a day look or a night look, you can really use that as a basic item in your bag,” she says.

But if you forget to pack your mascara, or any other cosmetics you may need at a moment’s notice, don’t worry! With over 8,000 stores and 26,000 beauty advisors across the country, Walgreens is never hard to find. “Because we have stores open 24 hours, if you’re running to an event and forget your gloss or want to touch up your mascara [and realize you left it at home], there’s always a store anywhere around the corner to fill those needs,” says Ms. Hoklas.

If you’re interested in experimenting with different color palettes, nail polish is a fun way to try new hues, whether you like to keep it classic with nude colors or go bold and daring with deep reds or purples.

And cosmetics weren’t the only featured products. Many women forget that before the makeup goes on, you have to take care of your skin. With the Olay Fresh Effects Skin Care Collection, customers can remember to moisturize and exfoliate before dealing with makeup. “Sometimes women worry about covering up their skin, but if your skin is healthy, there isn’t a lot of work to do. It just makes your makeup apply that much easier and go on that much smoother,” observes Ms. Hoklas.

Last but not least, you have to be able to show off your pearly whites for the camera. Crest WhiteStrips does the job in only a couple hours. When you’re in a pinch, Ms. Hoklas suggests “you buy it off the shelf and use it in the comfort of your own home; within hours, you’ve got a great smile.”
