Ring Around the Workout

Try a ring workout for a new fitness challenge

Learn to be a ringmaster – no, not of the circus, but of your fitness routine. DuWayne Wright offers personalized free-form ring workouts at the Workout Wright Studio in Evanston, transforming a 1930s gym exercise into a modern day strength training program for women.

“Sometimes strength training can turn women off, but the rings create nice long, lean muscles,” he notes. The program consists of body stability, balance, core and muscular endurance/strength.

Annette Pecora is a spa consultant who’s worked with the free form rings for six months. “The very first workout is challenging because you use muscles you’ve never used before. It’s super hard to lift your body up,” she says. But Ms. Pecora now boasts a stronger core and defined shoulders thanks to Mr. Wright. “He pushes you beyond where you can go because he believes you can do it and makes you believe you can do it.”

Although twirling around on rings may seem silly, Mr. Wright guarantees a challenging workout with levels of increasing difficulty. “This challenges me in ways I’ve never been challenged before,” said Ms. Pecora. “It’s my own little competition.”
