The Big Apple vs. The Windy City
After Fashion Week, we thought we’d compare street fashion in New York to Chicago. We weren’t looking for celebrities, ‘who’s who’ at a party or designer labels – just interesting clothes fashionably put together.
Almost immediately, we realized it wasn’t fair to Chicago. Those who hang around New York Fashion Week aren’t typical New Yorkers. In fact, hardly anybody we saw was from New York – they were from Los Angeles, Japan, Germany, Brazil – all around the world. There were lots of great looks, but many were dressed to thrill and attract. Often, the more outlandish, the better. Consider a woman in a tutu or man wearing pants and a jacket…with stilettos.
Back home in Chicago, we hung out on Michigan Avenue one sunny fall afternoon near the Art Institute and wandered up to Tribune Tower. It didn’t take long to spot people scurrying to work, class, the market – all dressed imaginatively. Take a look…
