Meet Today’s Chicago Woman’s top singles – and learn more about them!
Selecting this year’s Top Singles was no easy task. To be a TCW single, you need to be well-rounded with a sparkling personality and stellar professional/charitable contributions. And it doesn’t hurt if you’re a little easy on the eyes. In 2014, we found an impressive mix of entrepreneurs, health professionals, media personalities and more. Overall, it’s an eclectic group of good-natured singles that you’d probably either want to date, fix up with your best friend, or if you’re ‘of a certain age,’ introduce to your daughter or son. So have a look and see if anyone piques your interest!
The photographs in this feature were taken by Adrian Orozco and Ashley Fischer at ¡AY CHIWOWA! on Chicago Avenue, at an exclusive party to introduce the single women and men to each other.

If I won the lottery, I’d share.
My best day was eating dinner at a table shared by my favorites including Tiger Woods, George W. Bush, George H. W. Bush, Barbara Bush, Phil Mickelson, Jason Dufner and Jim Furyk. Surreal.
My secret talent is I bake the best chocolate chip cookies.
The title of my autobiography would be Don’t Be a Sheep.
I can talk for hours about anything…to anybody.
I couldn’t live without red pepper flakes.
If I could travel anywhere in the world, I’d go to the Amalfi Coast.
You’d be surprised that I’m not a wine person.
My biggest fear is that I’ll miss out on something special because I was too scared to ask for it.
I wish I’d known at 21 that what other people think about me is none of my business.
My ideal partner is witty, bright, honest and kind.
My favorite date spot is any dimly lit place with good scotch, great music, amazing food and lots of laughter.
My ultimate turn-off is negativity.
My ultimate turn-on is great eyes.
Bruce Silverman, VMD, MBA 43
Veterinarian/Owner, Village West Veterinary
On the side: The Critical Animal Relief Foundation.
I love my job because being conscientious and creative means healing wounds, saving lives and bringing comfort.
If I could travel anywhere in the world, I’d visit my parents. I truly don’t see them enough.

Crystal B. Simms 29
Owner/Creative Director, Crystal B. Designs
On the side: International Academy of Design and Technology Fashion Board, Chicago Fashion Council and Alumni of the Chicago Fashion Incubator.
My life motto is “Dress for success!” If you want to be perceived a certain way or want to be taken seriously, dress the part. Perception is everything, and fashion is able to persuade.
If I won the lottery, I’d have a mega-million fashion house!
I couldn’t live without my phone. When I’ve lost my phone (the numerous times that it’s happened) I’ve felt completely disconnected from society, not to mention bored and unproductive.
Friends say I’m a robot full of energy that never turns off or calms down. I like to keep the excitement going in my life, so if that means dancing while working, singing or putting on a show, then that’s me! I need a way to stay positive and stress-free during those stressful moments in life.
The title of my autobiography would be B. Crystal B.
On my day off, you’ll find me sleeping. Seriously. I sleep at any free moment. I hate to admit this but I can fall asleep at any given time or place. I can fall asleep on the train, in a restaurant, at the coffee shop, my office or literally anywhere. It’s so bad but I can’t help it.
I wish that I had known at 21 that good things really come to those who wait, are persistent and passionate about their dreams. I’ve had to learn the hard way that fools really do rush in. Learning to be patient and persistent is hard but when it’s mastered it is a true virtue.
I can talk for hours about alcohol. Technically, I’m a beer expert (although I don’t like it). I’m extremely familiar with wines, very knowledgeable with whiskey and am currently learning more about rum, tequila and mezcal! The chemistry of alcohol and the process of how it is made is far more interesting to me than the actual end result. Learning what makes a product special, what gives alcohol it’s distinct flavor or even learning where they originated from, really gets my wheels turning!
Date me because I’m extremely open-minded and willing to give anyone a chance. Persistence attracts me.
If I could travel any place in the world right now it would be Australia. I am in love with Australia. It’s an up-and-coming fashion mecca. The fashion is amazing and their economy is great!
My ultimate turn-on is the man taking initiative. I can appreciate a confident man who knows what he wants. I enjoy meeting men that are not afraid to approach me and follow up within a reasonable amount of time. There is something to be said about a man who is persistent, who knows what he wants and can show me that I am worth working for.
My favorite date spot is Mon Ami Gabi. It’s just a delightful place with delicious food and an ambiance good enough to get to know one another.
My ideal partner would of course be persistent but would also be honest and trustworthy. I value an honest man; I even value a man who’s upfront regarding his intentions. I don’t like to think too much or wonder too much. I like to be sure. Once trust is broken I can’t see there being longevity in the relationship.
