Wise beyond her 28 years, Oklahoma native Whitney Reynolds has made a difference in Chicago with WYCC’s The Whitney Reynolds Show, discussing a wide variety of topics, from having fun around town to tackling violence issues in the city. She’s making even more of an impact now that her talk show, which kicked off its third season last month, has hit the national circuit. “The goal was to be national by the time I turned 30,” she recalls. “I wasn’t going to stop until it happened.” And like the Energizer Bunny, she’s still going.
With over 200 PBS stations in the country, “we hope to be on 85 percent of them by the end of this year,” she shares. “[On each show], we’re focusing on one topic, breaking it down and hopefully inspiring people along the way. Sometimes people are making changes; other times we end the show with, ‘We didn’t solve the problem today but hope we gave you the tools to move forward.”
For those who think they’ll miss the local connection, don’t worry…the “I Do, Chicago Style!” wedding special airing later this summer features local vendors and tips from TCW’s Event Planning Guide published in January, 2014. Plus, Whitney still loves the town that gave her show a shot. “I couldn’t have done it if I tried to do this in any other city. Chicago has embraced, loved and encouraged me. It’s really the wind behind me, pushing me forward.”
Catch The Whitney Reynolds Show on WYCC, Channel 20, on Saturdays at 4pm.
