Tips to Get Fit on a Budget
Get skinny while your wallet stays plump!
In light of the economic downturn, many Chicagoans are cutting down on their leisure spending. But just because times are tough doesn’t mean you need to short-change an active lifestyle. I decided to road test some thrifty ways to maintain healthy habits throughout the winter. Check out my frugal fitness tips below and feel free to send me your own unique ideas on staying fit for next to nothing!
Just Say Om
Rather than breaking the bank with one-on-one yoga sessions, check out complimentary yoga, Pilates and other mat-based classes at one of three Lululemon Athletica locations in Chicago – Michigan Avenue, Bucktown or Lincoln Park. This yoga-based, health-conscious retailer offers hour-long complimentary sessions every Sunday and even provides free mats and post-workout snacks to refuel. Join other yogis every week for a free session taught by monthly rotating area studios. With all the cash you save on the gratis classes, you can treat yourself to Lululemon’s array of awesome athletic wear.
Make a Run for No Money
Work on your mile time and find some running buddies with Niketown Chicago’s weekly Running Club. Join other running enthusiasts each week at the Michigan Avenue location to lace up and hit the streets. All levels are welcome and individuals can choose their own pace and distance – some participants opt for a brisk three-mile jog while others use the motivating group atmosphere for long distance runs. It’s a great workout and the perfect way to watch your wallet, meet like-minded athletes and stay fit.
